Title: Insurgent
Post by: bonny on January 28, 2014, 12:03:53 AM
News!

Academy award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has been tapped to work on the script for ’Insurgent,’ the sequel to the upcoming adaptation ‘Divergent.’ The film’s producers are currently looking for a director for the sequel, as Neil Burger, who directed ‘Divergent,’ has decided not to return for the sequel, citing schedule conflicts. Sources say shooting on the sequel will begin in the spring. Brian Duffield first worked on the script for ‘Insurgent,’ which is pencilled in for a March 20th, 2015 bow. The first film in the series, ‘Divergent,’ will open on March 21st. The third film, ‘Allegiant,’ is scheduled for March 18th, 2016. The futuristic action-adventure trilogy is based on Veronica Roth’s The New York Times bestselling novels

Akiva Goldsman won an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay for the 2001 film ‘A Beautiful Mind.’ The writer-producer, who has stepped in to work on several other film scripts in the past, wrote ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and co-wrote ‘Cinderella Man,’ ’I, Robot’ and ‘Angels & Demons.’ He also wrote and directed the upcoming film ‘Winter’s Tale,’ which stars Colin Farrell, Jessica Brown Findlay, Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe, and will hit cinemas on February 14th.

Starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer and Amy Newbold, ‘Divergent’ is set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities.  Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

The film, a futuristic action adventure, is directed by Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist) from a script by Vanessa Taylor. The original draft of the script was written by Evan Daugherty. Summit will release the film theatrically on March 21st, 2014. The official synopsis for Veronica Roth’s ‘Divergent’ novel can be read below.

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

More news!

EXCLUSIVE: Summit Entertainment has found its director for Insurgent, the follow-up to the upcoming Divergent that will launch a three-pic series based on Veronica Roth’s sci-fi novels. Robert Schwentke, whose credits include the 2010 action comedy Red that also came from Summit, has been tapped for duty, and he will helm the script currently being written by Akiva Goldsman based on a draft by Brian Duffield.

In December, Summit had to explain that Divergent director Neil Burger couldn’t helm the second pic because of postproduction on the first movie overlapping preproduction. That second pic has been fast-tracked for next year and has a March 20, 2015 release date already.

Divergent, which stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Kate Winslet, comes out March 21.

The third pic in the trilogy, Allegiant, will bow on March 18, 2016.

Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing Insurgent via their Red Wagon Entertainment along with Pouya Shahbazian. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman have come on board to executive produce via their Mandeville Films. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president of production Erik Feig and SVP Production Gillian Bohrer are overseeing for the studio.

Schwentke, repped by CAA, is currently attached to the serial killer pic Entering Hades for New Regency as well as The Finest Hours, the Disney drama about a Coast Guard rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Cod after a pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard in 1952. His most recent movie was Universal’s Jeff Bridges-Ryan Reynolds starrer R.I.P.D., and other directing credits include The Time Traveler’s Wife and Flightplan.

Well, in the book he was.  I read the second book, which ended in a battle (if I'm remembering correctly), and it was unclear whether he survived that.  Has anyone here read the third book?

If you were a fan of this year's movie adaptation of Veronic Roth's Divergent book featuring teens in a dystopic future (because that's the way it is folks in the Young Adult realm), then you'll be excited to hear that the cast is back together for the official start of filming on the sequel, Insurgent!

I know I sound kind of mean when I talk about these young adult book adaptations, and it's a little unfair.  There are plenty of amazing books featuring teenagers as the leads out there in the world, and a few of them have been turned into great films...I just didn't think much of the Divergent book.  It wasn't that great, and featured mostly themes that other books had done (only better) without contributing much of it's own.  Either way, it's captured an audience, and if you're among them, then be excited for the announcement that cameras have begun rolling on the second film:

Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) announced today that principal photography has commenced in Atlanta on the feature film adaptation of INSURGENT, the second installment of the blockbuster DIVERGENT action adventure franchise, starring Golden Globe® nominated Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Academy Award® winner Kate Winslet.  Academy Award® winner Octavia Spencer joins returning cast members Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q and Mekhi Phifer.  Based on author Veronica Roth’s New York Times best seller, the film is being directed by Robert Schwentke from a screenplay by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing the film through their Red Wagon Entertainment banner along with Pouya Shahbazian. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are executive producing through their Mandeville Films banner along with Neil Burger and Barry Waldman. Lionsgate will release INSURGENT theatrically in North America through its Summit Entertainment label on Friday, March 20, 2015.

INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the dystopian ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite.  Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them.  Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.

“Divergent” was written by first time author Veronica Roth and has topped The New York Times Best Seller list since being published in April 2011 by Katherine Tegen Books/HarperCollins Publishers.  Book sales of the “Divergent” trilogy have surged to nearly 22 million copies worldwide, up from 17 million at the time of DIVERGENT’s March 21 release.

DIVERGENT has already grossed more than $260 million at the worldwide box office, making the film Lionsgate’s highest-grossing domestic box office release outside THE HUNGER GAMES and TWILIGHT franchises.

The third and fourth installments in the series, ALLEGIANT - PARTS 1 & 2, are slated for release on March 18, 2016 and March 24, 2017, respectively.

Well, let's hope Ray gets more than 3 1/2 minutes of screen time in the second installment! Even having five of him in one scene in Divergent didn't alleviate my sense of deprivation :(

Hi Catelyn
I've not seen the film yet but if Ray's only in it for such a short period, it absolutely isn't fair and is indeedy a gross deprivation of RayVers.

I know the following is not really related to these films.... but it features a quote from the star of this film, and features a hint/heads-up for Ms. Woodley.  :o

I heard the following quote today (Monday June 2, 2014, at about the 44 minute and 30 second mark), from Shailene Woodley, an audio clip (http://prestonandsteve.libsyn.com/) from her rounds of interviews  to promote her latest film ('The Fault in Our Stars'):

"I really enjoy .... I .. really like... feet. That is a weird fetish.  I love... like ... a nice foot on a man or a woman... to me is so sexy."

I wondered if she has seen Ray's feet? His feet are GORGEOUS (as are his hands). And I don't even have the fetish.... I don't think so, anyway .... ?

Anyway... I wanted to let Shailene know that she should really get a load of his lower extremities! The lowest ones, that is.  :listit:

:bead:

Insurgent gets a release date; March 20, 2015.  The next film in the series, Allegiant, has been green lit, but I don't know if Marcus, Ray's character, will be in it.  Has anybody read Allegiant and knows?

Edited to say that I just read the Wiki article about the book and it looks like Marcus is in it!

Wondering: why are websites said to be launched, like rockets?

I am a step closer to seeing Divergent and then Insurgent. Well sort of.

I wasn't sure they would be my cup of tea. However I recently and rather accidentally started to watch the opening shots of The Hunger Games; completely expecting not to like it and with half a thought on cleaning out the kitchen cupboards for entertainment. BUT I was hooked in less than 5 minutes! So this futuristic lark isn't as bad as I thought. Meactuallylikey.

*Is now on a mission to see all Hungames and Divesurgent type movies*

Seen this-hes on the screen for five minutes and says about four phrases. The film is quite good but i found it a bit depressing Tris constantly has a single tear running down her face.Makes it worse knowing how it will end

Roll on Big Game I dont care what the films like -hes going to be on the screen and have dialogue and presuming running about-may have to see it twice ( or three times like GI Joe)
