Synopsis according to IMDB:

On the edge of the Antarctic Circle, in the years after World War I, a steam ship approaches a desolate island far from all shipping lanes. On board is a young man, on his way to assume the lonely post of weather observer, to live in solitude for a year at the end of the world. But on shore he finds no trace of the man whom he has been sent to replace, just a deranged castaway who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. The rest is forest, a deserted cabin, rocks, silence, and the surrounding sea. And then the night begins to fall...

Hah!  This must be what Ray was referring to when he commented about being concerned about how cold and wet he would be on a movie shoot!  Poor baby.  :nailbite2:

Here's that quote:
AVC: You’ve done plenty of period pieces over the years. Do you have a preference when it comes to modern-day setting versus period?

RS: No, not at all. No preferences at all for that sort of thing. I only have preferences to how wet and cold I’m going to get. [Laughs]

Here's a description of this film's journey.  Looks like it's had the typical starts and stops along the way.  It's listed as Adventure/SciFi/Thriller.  Release date-2017.

Oooh so well spotted, Wing  :snog:

If Ray's in Iceland then I am truly envious, despite the wet and cold. It's a place on my Bucket List and also on my Volcano List. I love volcanicity, me  ;D

I recall it's been 5 years since the UK skies were completely plane-free as a result of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption. Have fun Ray, you lucky, lucky thing, you  :ray:

Those frog-like humanoids may not be terribly enamoured at first, but I'm sure as soon as you get them under you they're as slack as your best Narbo scortum.

I know, I know, I'll get me coat.

btw EWWWWWW was my first reaction as well

Bit of info on Cold Skin:

http://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3388241/whoa-cold-skin-actually-happening-director-frontiers/

Flash back to 2009, 30 Days of Night and Hard Candy director David Slade was attached to helm the adaptation of the Antarctic island horror/psychological thriller Cold Skin, based on a best-selling Spanish novel of the same title.

Then, in 2011, Xavier Gens (The Divide, Hitman, Frontiere(s)) was attached to take the reigns from a screenplay by Carriers writers Alex and David Pastor.

After years in development hell, filming is officially underway, which means Cold Skin is actually, finally, truly happening!

Who stars? Ray Stevenson (“Dexter,” Punisher, Big Game, Thor, the Divergent franchise) and David Oakes (The Borgias, The White Queen), says Variety.

Based on a best-seller of the same title by Albert Sanchez Pińol whose adaptation rights were said to have been pursued in their day by Focus Europe and Filmax, Cold Skin begins with a young man approaching a remote island on the edge of the Antarctic Circle to relieve a weather observer who has been stationed there in solitude. But all he finds is a deranged castaway who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name.

Cold Skin co-stars Spain’s double-Goya nominee Aura Garrido (Stockholm, The Department of Time).

Two-time Academy Award winner Gil Parrondo serves as production designer: award-winning Ranchito (“Games of Thrones,” The Impossible) supplies VFX.

Principal photography will move to the Canary Islands later this month and then a further part of the shoot is planned for Iceland exteriors, said Babieka’s Denis Pedregosa.

Here’s the synopsis from a few years back:

“In this grim, H.G. Wellsian fable, an unnamed European of unspecified nationality is hired to spend an unspecified mid-20th-century year logging wind conditions on a tiny Antarctic island. Anticipating solitude, the bookish young man soon discovers that he has a neighbor–the pathologically reclusive Gruner–and that each night, the island is overrun by humanoid killer amphibians. He and brutish Gruner–who has tamed a “toad” of his own–join forces, killing monsters by night and fornicating with Gruner’s pet by day. Inspired by the creature’s ability to laugh and cry–to say nothing of her perky breasts, knack for housework and wordless submissiveness–the narrator begins to think of the cold-blooded creatures as human. When he tries to befriend them and their children, his efforts pacify the humanoids, but not Gruner; the hopeful idyll ends when the older man launches a last suicidal effort to exterminate the “monsters.” Gruner’s death plunges our hero into a rut of battle, drunkenness and bestiality so complete that when his replacement arrives, he has become as feral as Gruner was before him.”

It sounds very Lovecraftian, like The Fog meets Dagon…

"Now in production on mainland Spain, “Cold Skin” will be introduced to buyers by Gregoire Melin’s Kinology at next month’s Cannes Festival where Melin will unveil early footage."

that one of the monster/aliens/whatevers but theres another publicity poster that has the face of a monster and it look awfully familiar if you know what i mean.you know i have tec probs being a ludite and all but im sure one of you good people can bring it in to here.i just hope if they use that poster they are not relying on a plot twist where we all go ooo cos it looks like a dead giveaway.Gotta say though i took one look and this scaredy cat didnt like the look of this project.I normally love going to the cinema to see the big man big on the big screen, but this looks as though it might give me nightmares. Now reading your comments i see the words sex slave and maybe ill have to get brave quick.the facebook page for the film shows the sets they are building before to cast go to iceland.what with black beard and this I might keel over in antici...........pation!! :zombie: :zwalk: :zsuit:  :whip:

I was having some interesting thoughts in the shower yesterday morning.

Brexit or Eur-in?

Dagonet or Pullo?

Gel Wash or Skin Scrub?

So I decided upon Brexit, Pullo and the scrub. Then my mind wandered to... what if the 'r' in scrub was a 'y'?

Scyub. I said it a few times and it made me giggle because it sounded so much nicer. Or was it now sounding like a sofa from Ikea?

But then I thought what if Ray was with a 'y' and not with an 'r'? That would make him a YAY. And I thought my goodness. How apt!

And all this before 6.30am  :help: :giggly: :grinny:

I was having some interesting thoughts in the shower yesterday morning.

How very bizarre. I was just having some interesting thoughts about you in the shower as well.  ;D

So I read Cold Skin. At first it reads like your typical monster movie, but there's something deeper at work, and I'm very much looking forward to the screen adaptation with Mr S. He's playing the lighthouse keeper Gruner, who you'll be happy to know is described as having 'an enormous member'.  :o  Unfortunately he's also described as being, well, mad as cheese, and quite hirsute and hygienically challenged. :yucky: As well I'm having a bit of trouble getting past a female character being named 'Aneris' which is only one letter off from being a certain male sex toy. Then again, she is something of a sex toy so I suppose it's really quite appropriate after all....  The whole thing is disturbing on many levels, which in my opinion sets it apart from the average horror story. It's far more introspective. It'll be interesting to see how that gets translated to the screen. The few shots I've seen so far look very much as I imagine they should, and very promising.

The isolated island's lighthouse plays a huge part in the book. You can see two of them in this wide shot, one is the full lighthouse and the other is probably just for more closeup action. You can see the terrain is quite inhospitable and I'd hate to be the crew members dragging a crane up there so I can see why they'd prefer a shorter lighthouse set for the sequences requiring those shots.

Alas haven't found much directly referring to Mr S yet, unless you count this pic of his hotel (?) door all tarted up in insane Gruner fashion (castmate David Oakes says 'Ray's gone method!' lol )

According to the caption, that's Spanish actress Aura Garrido as Aneris, the 'mascot' of the book's sea creatures, along with makeup artist Arturo Balseiro. Always amusing to see an actor tarted up in full monster makeup doing something utterly incongruous like wearing sunglasses! My Spanish is rather crap but the article is basically about the economic boost to the Canary Islands' municipality of Tinajo due to the shooting of Cold Skin. I take it the hotels and city life are less desolate and forlorn than the lighthouse locations!

Some of you may not give a toss about spoilers and want to read the book - if so it's Cold Skin by Catalan author Albert Sanchez Pinol. It's a very quick read. The English translation however does not include some rather important backstory, like the reason the unnamed main character, an Irish weather official, has sought out this lonely year-long stay on the island - he's a disillusioned IRA activist.

Wowee! How absolutely spiffing of you TitusPullo, to somehow persuade Ray SteVenson to share these 'in production' movie bits. Thankyou. Thankyou. Thankyou. It all looks rather thrilling indeedy

Cold Skin eh. How amphibitastic it sounds. So our darling Ray plays the lighthouse keeper Gruner: hairy, and endowed with the shape and sensibilities of a rather ripe Kochwurst and with the smell of old camembert. Add the bestiality between Gruner and Aneris and there's a strange yet rather compelling smegma meets tadpole amplexus to look forward to. I definitely want to see the film    :shocking: :grinny:

And it was Ray's Birthday this week. Belated Happy Birthday sweetheart. I wonder if he celebrated in style and perhaps got drunk as a skunk? Hmm. Also wonder if Gruner joined in and got pissed with the newt?

Ray does seem to have a thing for playing hairy blokes of late.  (Volstagg, Blackbeard, Gruner)

I have to say Ray has much more than a passing resemblance to the young Roger

Apparently Ray's next film will be Final Score:

"FINAL SCORE , written by The Brothers Lynch and Jonathan Frank, takes place at a major sporting event when a stadium is suddenly seized by a group of heavily armed criminals demanding ransom. An ex-soldier must use all his military skills to save the 35,000 capacity crowd, one of which is the daughter of his fallen comrade. Directed by Scott Mann (HEIST) FINAL SCORE will star Dave Bautista, Pierce Brosnan, Ray Stevenson, Alexandra Dinu and Julian Cheung."
http://www.thefyzz.com/facility/project/?p=final_score
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Score_(2017_film)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5254610/

I'm guessing Ray will be playing a baddie again.

Has anyone else noticed that one can barely watch television nowadays without coming across an actor who hasn't been a co-star; in the cast or has been once married to, Ray Stevenson. It's all because of his great body, obviously. Of work that is  :snog:

Ahhhhhh, THAT! Yeah, bit macabre, that one.  :o

Nowt wrong with dad bods ffs!  ;D Lots of shagging and nudity in such a short series and it was good to see the 40+ crowd representin', integral to the plot of course, wink wink. Did you watch ep 6 yet? I caught the anagram clue so guessed that bit correctly but had a facepalm moment when I realised why Benton had seemed a bit odd at the mention of Hannah a few episodes back. What a mindf*** this series was. Richard Dormer was brilliant. I read up on him and was surprised to find he's from the same bit of the world Ray is. And what a small world again - creepy Clive Russell (Elaine's dad) was in Game of Thrones with Richard and in Thor The Dark World and King Arthur with Ray.

Okay, unless you carried and delivered the young 'un, no reason why a dad should have a bod any different than that of a non-dad. I'll say no more, except that normal, natural bodies are best, IMO, anyway!

I think that must be European thing, since Hollywood doesn't acknowledge that women over 35 who don't look like anorexic runway models with huge bolt-ons might be active in that respect. But what do I know? ::)

I'm too lazy to do the multiquote thing, so I'll simply agree that normal natural bodies are always best (espesh mum bods), Europe isn't immune to the silliness regarding women's bodies (remember Keira Knightley's 'King Arthur' poster?), and I hope you emerged from episode 6 less scarred than poor Gabriel, who somehow managed to get shot, burnt, and injured in a car crash all in one day (can you say overkill without the actual kill?).  :faint:

Ha! Let there be breasts! I didn't really watch much of the movie or see her in it but do remember the kerfuffle over the poster. Why is she so scantily clad anyway? What bits and pieces I saw of the movie, the weather seemed a bit chilly for leather macrame halters and the men were all fully clothed.

Haven't watched yet, but it was a mistake to make a lead character as unlikable as I personally find him to be. The problem with that is you don't care what terrible things befall him and audiences should care.

Quote

Oh, I totally agree but what is trendy now is about as far from natural as you can get. They're reaching a stage where they don't look fully human, never mind natural.  ::) "Dolphin smooth" (quoting Abe from "The Walking Dead") just doesn't do it for me.

Oh, I simply think of such characters as being complex. Gabriel's a self-destructive man, and I wanted to know why he was that way and how that was going to tie in with how he was going to do the one good thing he seemed keen to do: stopping the acid killer. There really aren't any pure good guys in this story -- even the daughter is having her own self-destructive phase. As well I just wanted to see how this reversed storytelling gimmick would work out! I'm not entirely certain it worked but I feel I missed a bit so I'll withhold judgment until I've seen it again.

Indeed: "Gabriel's Bad Day." I'm just glad we don't have to see what he's going to look like after these latest adventures. :o

A few surprises, but I no doubt missed things since I was having a bit of trouble with some of the accents. As for the backwards thing - I think it was used to give an original twist to yet another crime drama/serial killer story and put a fresh spin on it. IMO, it worked reasonably well.

All in all, not bad, although this ep seemed very rushed with way too much crammed into it in order to tie everything all up, giving us virtually no time to feel any suspense. Another episode may have been needed.

Hahaha! I'm sure Richard Dormer is happy not to have to wear yet more prosthetics for Season 2. ;) I loved the concept. My problem was that I didn't ultimately believe the motivations of the killer as well as the logistics. I also had problems with the supposed inciting incident of Gabriel witnessing the rape and 'accidentally' killing the rapist being the impetus for his own downward trajectory and causing his self-destructive streak. His story was by far the more compelling, and I could have watched the entire series just to find out why he became such a douche, so I think they rather missed an opportunity. Ah well, it was still an intriguing gimmick and I enjoyed it anyway.

And what accents?  ;D

I couldn't absorb it, let alone believe it. As I said, it was all rushed in a big whiz past us, but maybe I'm just kinda slow. What cop would be permanently traumatized over killing a child rapist, accidently or not? I'm not a cop, but I'd say "Oh, hell yeah. Good riddance. Too bad it wasn't more painful."

Oh, well. I did enjoy certain elements of this.
