Simon Woods (older Octavian)
« on: December 19, 2006, 10:16:09 PM »

The BBC has released a most curious press release dated Dec. 12:

Rome

Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson, James Purefoy, Polly Walker, Tobias Menzies, Lindsay Duncan and Kerry Condon return for a second series of the BBC and HBO's Rome, the epic tale of the rise of one of the world's most powerful Empires told through the stories of masters and slaves alike.

Having lost his wife, and played an integral part in Caesar's death, Vorenus begins the series a broken man. However, with the ever-loyal Pullo alongside him,
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Vorenus soon becomes a key player in Mark Antony's fight for control of Rome.

In the wake of Caesar's death, a vicious struggle for power and supremacy erupts, with Brutus and Servilia pitted against Mark Antony and Atia. With so much to play for, who will ultimately triumph?

Simon Woods joins the cast as Atia's son, Octavian, who turns against Mark Antony and Atia, leaving the city in order to raise an army and make his own bid for power.

Simon was Gifford in Elizabeth I which starred Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons and Hugh Dancy.

:o  How does HBO manage such an information lockdown for so long?  Well, I guess, despite speculation
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
they actually might skip ahead and end the series with the Actium.  Which means it most likely really will be the last season. :hide:

Spoiler (Highlight to read)
And from the "Pullo" clip on HBO, Pullo takes Octavian's side -- OH NO -- Pullo on Octavian's side, Vorenus on Marc Antony's -- WHATEVER WILL WE DO?????

Is anyone else wondering if people are going to age credibly in this series.  I mean, from the clips I've read,
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
with the introduction of 10-year-old Caesarion, a new older Octavian,
it appears as though at least a decade passes.  Vorenus and Pullo already appear to be in their 30's.  I know, we'll have to suspend disbelief for the good of the series, it's just that the timeline seems to be moving a little too fast for my taste (but maybe that's just me!   ;D).

I recall that actor playing Charles Bingley in "Pride and Prejudice" with Keira Knightley.
He looks pretty well for the role but
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
I see no point of changing the actor for the last 2 episodes. I still dont think they are going to take it to the battle at Ancium with 10 years old kid playing Ceasarion in latest three episodes of the upcoming season while historical Ceasarion was 17 years old at the time of showdown between Mark Antony and Octavian

Aging on the show seems to be hit and miss, depending on the characters.  Based on the fact that they finished their military duty, Pullo and Vorenus would seem to be in their early 40s at the end of season one.  However, remember Vorena the younger, who never aged at all during the 8 years that season 1 covered?  I could see them
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
casting an older Octavian for the end at Actium, because he is a major character.  I wouldn't put it past them to keep Caesarion at about 10 years old, despite what his real age would have been.  I believe Ptolemy, Cleopatra's brother was also in his mid to late teens when he was drowned, but he certainly didn't look that age on the  show.
