Indira Varma (Niobe) will be in the mid-season series, THREE POUNDS, airing on CBS later this year. It's about an arrogant but talented brain surgeon (Stanley Tucci) who has to cope with his demanding professional life and a deteriorating mind. (The title refers to the average weight of the human brain.)  Also starring is Reiko Aylesworth, Mark Feuerstein, Armando Riesco, Tamara Taylor, and Lorraine Toussaint (Any Day Now).

UK fans will be able to see this series too. It will air on BBC One in 2007. The BBC refused to disclose how much it had spent to buy the program, but it denied press speculation that the figure was in excess of £5m.  See: BBC acquires new US medical drama

Torchwood Everything Changes
Sundays on BBC Three starting October 22nd.

(Irishdev.com) - Created by award-winning writer Russell T Davies, the high-octane sci-fi thriller follows a team of modern-day investigators as they use alien technology to solve crime both alien and human.

Separate from the Government, outside police jurisdiction and beyond the United Nations, the Torchwood Institute sets its own rules. Based in Cardiff, the Torchwood team delves into the unknown, battling against the impossible in a highly volatile underworld of savage aliens and monsters whilst trying to maintain their everyday lives.

Enigmatic Captain Jack Harkness is the ever-watchful leader of the Torchwood team. Gwen Cooper is initially an outsider, whose first, chance meeting with Torchwood at the scene of a brutal murder sparks within her a burning curiosity to get to the truth. She is intrigued by Torchwood and her life changes when she is catapulted into an unfamiliar and exciting world.

Second in command to Captain Jack is Suzie Costello, the hard-working hardware specialist who catalogues and strives to understand the alien devices the team comes across. Owen Harper is the arrogant, brilliant medic and Toshiko Sato specialises in all things computer, surveillance and technical. Ianto Jones, meanwhile, cleans up after the team and gets them everywhere on time.

Torchwood is written by Russell T Davies and Chris Chibnall, with contributing writers including Peter J Hammond, Toby Whithouse, Noel Clarke, Cath Tregenna, Jacquetta May and Helen Raynor.

The executive producers are Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner. Torchwood is filmed in HD (high definition).

Captain Jack Harkness is played by John Barrowman, Suzie Costello by Indira Varma, Gwen Cooper by Eve Myles, Owen Harper by Burn Gorman, Toshiko Sato by Naoko Mori and Ianto Jones by Gareth David-Lloyd.

Torchwood will air Sundays on BBC Three from October 22nd.

BBC Programme Information have released an interview with Indira Varma who plays Torchwood's 'number two' Susie Costello, which can be read here. (Unfortunately no mention of her time on Rome.)

According to imdb, "Torchwood" is an anagram of "Doctor Who". When the first series of "Doctor Who" (2005) was being made, television pirates were desperate to acquire the preview tapes. One of the people in the office had the idea of labeling the tapes with the anagram "Torchwood" rather than "Doctor Who", as a security measure to disguise the tapes when they were delivered from Cardiff to London. Writer Russell T. Davies liked this idea so much that it later inspired him to use it as a title when creating this spin-off series.

Comanche Moon (US)
« Reply #5 on: November 13, 2006, 05:35:17 PM »

The CBS mini-series Comanche Moon is a six hour prequel to Lonesome Dove, the Texan epic about two ranchers on a Montana-bound cattle drive by writer Larry McMurtry.  Based on the novel of the same name, Comanche Moon follows Gus McCrae (Steve Zahn) and Woodrow Call (Keith Urban) through their years as Texas Rangers as they create legends for themselves fighting the Comanche to open West Texas for settlement.

Indira plays Therese Wanz, the owner of a saloon. The mini-series also stars Adam Beach (ooh!), David Midthunder, Elizabeth Banks, Graham Greene, Jonathon Joss, Karl Urban, Keith Robinson, Linda Cardellini, Rachel Griffiths, Ryan Merriman, Steve Zahn and Val Kilmer.

Comanche Moon is a mini-series scheduled to air in February 2007.

Just happened to catch the first episodes of Torchwood. I hadnīt read this thread before so was pleasantly surprised to see Indira. Unfortunately...

SPOILER WARNING!!

she was killed off in the first episode and only appeared in one other episode where she was brought back from the dead, before being killed off permanently. She was pretty good in between dying though...
