According to Rome Historian's blog on the HBO website, they're starting to shoot the last episode.  Awwww, the last episode  :(

Okay, so there's a poster over at the Television Without Pity forums who has a friend who is a set designer at Cinecitta, and this set designer (and all his friends who have just finished working on Rome) say that the sets are to be left up because Season 3 will start filming in January.

You can read the post for yourselves here

http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3129763&st=390

Now, perhaps there's a confusion and they are leaving the sets up in the event they want to do any last-minute filming regarding Season 2.  I still find it unlikely that Season 3 would be a "go" given the cost, and the fact that all the good TV shows get cancelled (heaven forbid they have anything smart on TV today!), but I've never been good at predicting the future...

I just went to the TWOVP site to check it out.  They also brought up the possibilities that HBO would use it for a movie or rent it out for other productions.  I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but I hope, I hope that it's true.  This series deserves at least a third season.  Since, the new season starts in January, maybe HBO will see how the ratings are on season 2, before giving the go ahead on 3.

Welcome fuzzybunny!

Perhaps that is why. It's said the BBC only committed to co-finance 2 seasons, perhaps there's chance of a third depending on whether BBC changes its mind to contribute to a 3rd season. *crosses fingers, and toes!*

Hey! I'm posting a quote from RomeHistorian's blog entry on HBO's Rome boards for today, November 10.

Our Ray will soon be free to leave Cinecitta and Rome (if he can tear himself away). Oh, Ray! Would you like to visit the USA???  ::) :cool2:

Quote below:

"This is my final blog. We finish filming Friday and are getting ready to say our goodbyes. I've been thinking so much of my time here, and of why I love this city so much, and of why I love learning about and studying its past."

I read that on the blog and my first thought was sadness, but then I went back into optimistic denial and I'm back to hoping that HBO will change its mind and there's still a chance for a third season.

Salve Fellow Rome addicts,
What a great Forum for Ray/Titus. HBO made it quite clear before season 1 had
finished airing, that there would be no season 2. Low and Behold, we are now
waiting with anticipation, for season 2 to start. There were indeed many people,
myself included, that wrote to HBO management, and we were unambiguous as to
our intention to drop HBO from our cable service, if they were serious, and left
us in the lurch. We demanded a season 2, and HBO needs to heed our warnings.

Simply put, no Season 3, No HBO subscription. If the 2 or 3 million Rome addicts
out here in reality land stick together, and make our intentions known, and back
our words with our wallets, perhaps we can persuade them to see the error of
their ways. If HBO can absorb the loss of 1 million subscribers, then hats off to them.
We are all only one voice, but together we can become very difficult to ignore.

One cannot compare the Sopranos to Rome. The Sopranos is nothing but homogenized
gangster cliché, and one meaningless "Hit" after the other. Been there, done that, boring.
Plus, what actor on that over rated Soap Opera can begin to compare to Ray Stevens?
Zero.

Rome on the other hand, causes one to engage the brain, and drink in the quality.

Its like comparing Filet Mignon to left over Bangers.  :devilish:

I agree wholeheartedly and I had been living in optimistic denial that we might get a third season.  Someone on another board said that a while back he was at a dinner with industry types and they said that HBO was really disappointed in the ratings and the only reason HBO was ordering a second season was to justify the big pricetag of the show.

Personally, I think that if HBO was disappointed in the ratings for Season 1, it's their own fault.  They spent a fortune on this show and did a lousy job of advertizing it.  No actors on talk shows promoting it, etc...  The fans and the DVDs have created a huge buzz for the second season, so hopefully that will make a ratings impact for season 2.  However,
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
the casting of an older Octavian probably means that they will speed up the end of the season and bring us, if not Actium, then the beginning of the battles between Antony and Octavian.  James Purefoy has already signed on for a Showtime program.
This would mean that not much would be left for a story line in a season 3.  If season 3 were to happen, I'd be overjoyed, but I'm prepared for the worst. :-\

Welcome Digilinus!

There's an article in today's Providence Journal in which Ray made a good point about the main obstacle for future episodes, "The dollar is absolutely getting hammered against the Euro. Fiscally that put us in a very bad place."

But he also adds, "But artistically, I’d certainly like to see the show come back."

There's nothing in the article that we've not read already, but it was a recent interview and hopefully indicates we'll start seeing more press and interviews.

Number 348!

I take it that Ray would like to return for season three.  I think I'll add a link to the petition on his myspace fan page!

bummer :(

when i think of hbo i think of visionaries, innovators-- trail blazers of excellent original programming who pave the way for others...they are the risk takers--true industry leaders. i'm sad to hear that two seasons is all they think rome is worth. hmmm...maybe i have to revise my thinking....

rome in my opinion holds the same keys to success as the sopranos and sex in the city. but not only rome...i also think carnivale is top notch show worth keeping.

if it is true and the season is ending in october, then we may have some hope if fans remain loyal to the show and if the show is nominated for an emmy or other prestigious awards that bestow "critical acclaim" which is akin to profit. let's keep our fingers crossed....

if all fails, the true silver lining is that ray and the other actors have gained a new audience worldwide--and that cannot be taken away.
